Are you getting the most out of your social media event promotion strategy?  Potential event attendees are hanging out on the various social media platforms right now.  They’re right in front of you; all you have to do is reach them. But, if you think that getting through to them is as simple as posting a few times a day leading up to your event, think again.  If your strategy is dependent upon post frequency, then your efforts are falling short.

You see, every time you post to any of the social platforms, your message is competing against thousands of other events to stand out in users’ newsfeeds.  So, how can you make sure that your content is going to grab attention and drive awareness? Let’s take a look at a few tips that will help you better promote events on social media, specifically Facebook, for a successful outcome.

Event Promotion on Facebook

With over 1.5 billion active users, Facebook is the perfect social platform to raise awareness about your event and gain exposure.  So, how can you ensure that your event will get noticed and connect with this audience? Here’s what you need to do:

  • Extend your reach by using the Events feature.  Though it may seem redundant, it’s important to post your events on both Facebook and your website.  This gives your audience a familiar place to go to find all of the details, and it provides a convenient list of all other upcoming events that can later be shared.  It also allows users to see who else might be attending as well as gives them a place to ask questions about your event. Even better, when you post an event on Facebook, it allows attendees to RSVP, which users can then share on their own News Feeds extending your organic reach.
  • Broadcast engaging content using Facebook Live.  If you want to really get your audience excited for an event, stream a video.  Fortunately, Facebook Live makes the process incredibly easy so that you can stream a video straight from your smartphone or laptop.  All you have to do is set the time, and tell your followers, in advance, when to tune in to build anticipation. Once you start streaming, users will receive a notification alerting them to your broadcast.  Use these live videos to engage with users by answering questions, and generate buzz by highlighting certain enticing aspects of your upcoming event so that people won’t want to miss out. After all, if they like with they see now, they’ll be sure to show up later.
  • Engage in conversation in Facebook groups.  The whole point of social media is to engage and interact with one another, so jump in, and be a part of the action.  No matter what industry you may be in, there’s always a community, or specifically a Facebook group, out there that shares the same interests.  So, be proactive in seeking these groups out, and start building relationships with the people who are a part of them. As you engage, remember that your goal is to present yourself or your business as a thought leader.  It’s not about marketing. It’s about adding value. Create awareness, and paint your event brand as something that’s worth paying attention to.

With these tips and tools, you’ll be able to promote your event through Facebook in a way that maximizes message retention and brings in more event-goers than ever before.
